Blox Project

A playful relationship exists between the physical depth of the artwork and the depicted imagery, suggesting a desire to connect with the viewer on more than one level.

The work is a three-dimensional assemblage that challenges the traditional boundaries of painting and sculpture. Incorporating hook and loop fabric (velcro), different textural elements, and hand motifs, the Blox Project employs a varied color palette of primaries juxtaposed with earth tones. The work projects out from the wall, breaking through the constraints of a flat canvas and demanding the viewer's space.

The use of the hand motif is a powerful one. Hands can signify creativity, unity, and connection, and it's compelling to see them explored in this multidimensional format. The decision to incorporate tactile materials like hook and loop fabric gives an additional layer of texture and calls for a sensory response that is both visual and haptic. The bold use of color grounds the work in a sense of assertiveness and celebration. The interplay between the two-dimensional painted hands and the three-dimensional construction results in a dialogue about the creation process itself.
